Should we not use the dividers as provided in the movie credits on dvd?

Usually movie credits don't have dividers. They may have different size of space between credits and different kind of arrangements of roles and group roles. But they don't have the equivalent to the kind of dividers implemented in profiler.

This is an example of a 'divider':

Police
Actor  Detective Smith
Actor  Officer Jones
Actor  Officer Johnson

IMO this is still a group role and not a divider. I would prefer to see it listed with role names like "Officer Jones (Police)" in profiler.

There you go again, Rho. There are NUMEROUS films that use the equivalent of a divider, all you have to do is look for them.

This was decided a long time ago and not by ME.

By who was it decided? I know it was neither me nor Invelos nor a forum consensus.

It was talked about several times, yes. But a consensus was never reached and the situation was never stable.

That discussion/poll led to a discussion/poll about using dividers for group roles.  The consensus in that discussion/poll...by a very slim 18 to 14 margin...was not to use dividers for group roles.

While this poll seems to have found a small majority to my preference, I would not call such a slim result a consensus.

18-14 is a majority and as a result a consensus. I have not seen anything that would say we need two-thirds or 80% or anything of the sort.

Majority and consensus are two different things in my opinion. In order to reach a consensus most (almost all) people have to agree and not only a majority.

You have created a definitoon of a group role, that simply doesn't fly, Tim. That is another form of divider, I defined the GROUP role for you.

And your definition does fly?

I'm following what was actually established

I don't think any clear path has really been established. Contributions with all three variants get accepted and declined on a case by case basis. And remember: a very small majority has voted to not use dividers at all for all three cases.

I have never said that my opinion has more value than anybody else's. How can I state anything else than my opinion in this forum? Do I really have to add IMO to every post?

I inferred that from Goodguy's statement:
Quote:
for an opinion to have some value, it has to be formed after reviewing the facts.

That sounded to me like if I didn't share his interpretation of the facts, my opinion didn't have value.

I said this after you said

Maybe you have been abusing dividers for group roles for 8 month. I'm sure some users have done this as well.

Your use of the word abusing sounds suspiciously like you think your method is the only correct one.  If your way isn't the ONLY way, why would you consider another way an abuse of dividers?
Quote:
But there is no consensus here and definitely non decision. I have not be using them and voted against them. And some other users have done this as well and voiced their opinion here.

I agree that there 's not consensus - and probably wouldn't use dividers that way most times myself.  But that doesn't mean that to do so is wrong either.  Some other users have done the opposite as well and have also voiced their opinion here.

There is clearly a reasoned difference of opinion -- with both sides wanting the other side to "keep it local."

The discussion of Group Roles vs dividers represents a distinction without a difference.  The only problem I see with using dividers to separate roles (assuming there's a divider in the actual credits like in Giga's Flashdance or Varian's War examples) is the lack of a way to end the group (though a blank divider could serve that purpost).
