| Posted: | | | | When I add new movies to my collection, the first thing I do is add them to the DVD Profiler, then I do a search on MRQE (Movie Review Query Engine) to get the star rating and put it in under the Review field.
A button on the toolbar that brings up the default browser and runs an MRQE search would help me a lot, and is an especially good feature for people who are unaware of the query engine.

| Posted: | | | | It appears that the MRQE is just a page full of movie reviews. If these are are important to your purchasing strategy, shouldn't you be coming here before you make your purchase. Not after you have paid hard earned monies for what may be a piece of crap. I also noticed that this page has an affiliation with IMDB, which we all know is not a good source. I don't see the relevance of adding this feature. |

| Posted: | | | | Just out of curiosity, where do you find the star ratings in MRQE? I don't recall ever seeing any. They have links to IMDB, but if those are the star ratings you want, then you can just use "IMDB search for this title" (It's in the menu: Online/Other Websites). And yes, you can add that command to the toolbar as well. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

I have to agree. While dedicated links to the big info sites (IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes) are fine, it doesn't make much sense to add specific links to little known review sites. You can do that via an HTML section. Example: | | | Matthias | | | Last edited: by goodguy |

As IMDB is not acceptable for contributions it is NOT a reliable source. I know you disagree, so you can give me your customary red arrow now, just as you do every time we disagree. |

To be completely accurate, it's not an acceptable source for data mining (i.e. grabbing the cast/crew data). It's well accepted as a reference. Well, not well accepted since some seem to have an unnatural fear of it, but it's not forbidden either. And in the context of Matthias' post, there's not a thing wrong with it. In fact the program has an IMDB link built is as Matthias already pointed out. People need to learn that IMDB is a fantastic site. Not every piece of data is 100% accurate of course, but there's lots of other very valuable data there that has no intersection with our data here. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | I frankly don't care about miuch of anything that IMDb has to offer, they are too full of errors. Why does everyone want to turn this into a clone of IMDb. It seems to me that if you like IMDb that much there is no need to clone, the real thing already exists and you can track your collection through them.<shrugs> Seems foolish to me, Personally for reviews I like DVDVerdict...thank you very much.

| Posted: | | | | I don't think anyone is advocating to turn DVDP into an IMDb clone. As Mark said: Quoting Mark Harrison: Quote: ... there's lots of other very valuable data there that has no intersection with our data here. |

| Posted: | | | | I wasn't addressing Mark as you can see from the two time stamps. Although Mark says there is valuable data there. I would say there is so much erroneous data there, that I question the value and veracity of all of their data.

| Posted: | | | | That is my problem with IMDB... there is so much there already that is wrong... I have a hard time trusting any of it. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Just to be clear, what I find valuable at IMDB at things like Triva, Alternate Version, Parents Guide, their message boards (per movie), etc. I wouldn't trust them and them alone on things like running time, release date, cast info, etc. But they have a lot to offer that has nothing to do with DVDs or DVD Profiler. It's also not forbidden to use them as a source for a contribution. What is forbidden is to screen scrape their cast/crew data.
I just wish people would get their facts straight about when they are and aren't permissible to use as a source. And I also wish people would realize that IMDB is more than cast lists and release dates. This constant IMDB bashing is just silly. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. I find it silly too, but some people around here have pretty much made up their mind. Slim chance to change that by mentioning facts. I only worry about the impression this kind of unfounded hostility makes on non-regular visitors, but then again, there are probably worse things here than the occasional IMDb bashing. | | | Matthias |

| Posted: | | | | I too find continual bashing imdb silly. Anyone that has compared the their cast and crew lists against those of the DVD realizes their failing, I'm sure those who have or watched a number of DVDs have noticed errors in the DVD credit lists. In profiling some episodes of a TV program the roles of two actors were reversed from one episode to the next.
But,
We are talking about reviews, I don't think anyone should rely on any one source for anything, much less reviews. Before the internet I used Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever Series and Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide. Both still available. But with the internet you can "google" "movire reviiews" and find hundreds of them. Reviews are like you know what, and everybody has one.
Anyone who is just starting a DVD collrction can not go wrong by checking out imdb's top 250 list or top 50 genre lists.
I recently bought two DVD sets that had a none Tuesday release date, checking out 5 sites two had one date and three had an other, none the usual Tuesday date. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. | Posted: | | | | The nice thing about MRQE is that it consolidates many reviews for a movie in one list.
For example, if you go to www.mrqe.com and type in Bee Movie, it comes up with 139 reviews. Several of the reviews have ratings beside them, like Eberts review of 2/4.
This is much more useful to me than the Rotten Tomatoes site, which gives an overall roll-up, because I can get an idea of where the reviews are coming from, and what those ratings are. If I want more detail, it is easy to drill down and read the entire review.
It is very different from IMDB. Well, other than the fact that it has a four-letter name, that is.
