Back to the topic at hand, Disney has muddied the waters just a little bit.

'101 Dalmations' has the new WDSHE logo and does not mention BVHE anywhere on the case.

'Enchanted', which was released today, AFTER '101 Dalmations', has the new logo but also says...in the fine print..."Distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment."

Would one of our users, from across the pond, be so kind as to check the 'Enchanted' releases there and see if this is just an R1 issue?

The Online is seeking real data which in this case is On Screen.

If you mean "as credited", then I have to disagree strongly. The contribution rules are after "correct names for studios" - whatever that may be. Note that the rules very clearly NOT say: "enter studios as credited on-screen" - and quite rightly so, IMHO.

The rules say that the 'authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself.'  That means we take as much information as we can from the DVD.  Studios can be taken from the DVD so that is where they should come from.

The caveat in the rules, that "there is further information about correct names for studios, and the opportunity to ask questions if unsure, in the Contributions forum," does not imply we should create an arbitrary common studio name.

I repeat: it would have been very easy for Ken to state that studio names should be entered "as credited". He didn't. Instead, he chose to use the term "correct names for studios", and "if unsure", he refers us to the forum. That, to me, is quite a far cry from entering studios as credited. Sure, what I enter is based on what I see on-screen, but by now we've all learned that, for instance, an on-screen credit of "an AMBLIN production" leads to an "Amblin Entertainment" studio entry in DVD Profiler, for that's the "correct name" the rules are after.

You are correct and your last sentence is exactly what the 'correct name' phrase is after.  I didn't mention it because I thought it was ovbious given the examples in the rule.  There is no way that Ken could list every single example in the rules so he gave us an out...the ability to enter the 'correct name'.

That ability does not, however, mean we can enter a common studio name as some have suggested.  If the credits read 'Touchstone Films', that is what is entered into profiler.  We do not change it to, the more common, 'Touchstone Pictures'.  That is, of course, JMHO.  Your mileage will vary.

That's good to hear, and it's truly important to point this out once in a while. Only yesterday I actually encountered a profile in which someone had entered something like "An XYZ production" into one of the studio-fields (I'm not joking!), and that wasn't the first time. I feel that's caused by a number of users repeating over and over again that studios are to be entered "as credited". They're not. We are after the "correct" studio name - whatever that may be.

It does, indeed: I have certainly used 'Touchstone Pictures' for that specific 'Touchstone Films' credit you refer to, because I feel that is the "correct studio name" the rules ask me to enter. I don't care whether the credits say "Touchstone Pictures", "a TOUCHSTONE picture", "a TOUCHSTONE film" or "Touchstone Films" - I enter them all as 'Touchstone Pictures'. To me, that is exactly what the whole comment about "correct names for studios" is meant for. Added bonus: I can get DVD Profiler to generate a list of all Touchstone-movies in my collection (scary thought for some users, but hey: actual "usability" of the data!). But indeed, your mileage may vary.

Do i speak in Japanese or something. or do you simply take one sentence out of a post with out context and then try and make an issue of it and attack. The context is the rest oif what I said in general and the specific paragraph that sentence was in.

Maybe the production schedules and release schedules were different -- and that final production for Enchanted was completed BEFORE 101 Dalmations even though the street date was AFTER.

It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.

You are correct, which is why I was hoping to get some kind of confirmation...one way or the other...from a user across the pond.  Since they aren't getting it until next month, assuming Skip is correct, I guess we will have to wait and see what their next release shows.

I am still waiting to see a new Touchstone release to see what they show.

Why is it MY comprehension problem, Skip? You make two completely contradictory statements, then claim that there is no answer yet, how does any of that contribute to this "educational" thread? If you don't want to fight, then you might want to stay away from hypocritical insults. Anyway, it doesn't matter, Patsa called it, looks like we are going with WDSHE for the given example.

WDSHE was NOT the issue, nadja. you have no idea what the issue was or why. If I had chosen to make the issue known and why you would have jumped down my throat on that. I have watched you do it. i suggest that when you don't know what is going or why that you stay out of it  instead oif making inane comments that reflect baly upon your intelligence level. In other words MYOB.

Maybe what you should do is learn to accept what is written instead of introducing side topics that only serve to muddy the water, in an attempt to cause trouble, which you generally do fairly well.   IF WDSHE was involved in the topic I was dealing with in any form I woulkd have dealt with it more extensively, at this time it is not, the subject at hand was BVHE PERIOD.

FWIW:
"Enchanted" will be released in the Netherlands as 2-disc combo releases with either "Herbie Fully Loaded", "High School Musical" or "Princess Diaries" on May 7th, and as an individual release on May 28th (source: dvd-home.nl). "Buena Vista" is listed as the company doing the release.

I see that in Sweden all the time too, as well as "Disney". Funny as there are no such company names.

My copy (upc: 786936735413) lists "Distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment." as part of the copyright block on the dvd case but not on the block on the slipcover!

So it looks like both side are right   (or wrong)!
