It gets ugly in a hurry, Karsten.

For example writing Rules "dictate: that a preposition not end a sentence.

Thus
Where in the world did you come from?
Would in theory not be correct

Where do you come from in the world?
Would be both correct and AWKWARD.

You can see this every day when some of our foreign friends try and use English, it is by all accounts one of the most difficult languages to learn. there are a lot of ifs, thens, maybes and sometimes.

Remember as well tha we are following the film industry, which does whatever they do, for whatever reasons they have. Few film titles could be taken as COMPLETE sentences in and of themselves. A few come to mind, but not the vast majority. Using one of Karsten's examples in sentence form (not title). Once upon a time in the west there was a gunfighter...........

I would go with "From where in the world did you come?"

My dad always reminded me that, "a preposition is a bad thing to end a sentence with."

This whole term "joining word" is misleading.

What I believe was meant was "articles, conjunctions and prepositions" all of which are not "joining words".

Actually, conjunctions are 'joining words' as they join words, phrases, clauses, etc.  But I am picking nits here and you are correct, the wrong term was used.

As I said in this thread, if we are going to use standard capitalization rules for titles, then that is what we should do and the rule should be changed accordingly.  To be clear, and I didn't make this up anyone can find it with a simple google search, the standard capitalization rules for titles are as follows:

For English titles capitalize major words but not short prepositions or the articles "the," "a," or "an," if they are not the first word of the title.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Should "*batteries not included" be capitalized to "*Batteries Not Included"?

Common Sense?

Yes, definitely!

Both of the two questions were rhetorical with which I only wanted to indicate that if we are going to apply standard capitalization rules on every title without using common sense we will generate unsatisfying results for a large part of the community. So, if you answered the second question (and I hope you do) you'd agree with my concern.

Since capitalization does not affect searches in any way, I do not see any issue with using standard capitalization rules for all titles.

That's why I said "all of which are not"; translated also as "some of which are".

NOTE: After reading this again, I can see that there can be two ways to interpret the sentence (just like the Rules).  What I meant was of the three categories, all are not "joining words" but some are (since that's what the word conjunction means).

My bad.  I admit I read it wrong.

Is there some purpose to this, hal, as if i didn't know. I merely used the example that I found, WITHOUT further comment.

Now kindly stop paying stupid games.

You are clearly looking for a fight, Skip.

I was simply saying that this would be another way of asking the question.

Why is it that you did not jump on 'smeehrrr" for exactly th same post as mine?
