the vote was two against two, and Invelos decided.

Fair enough, it was 0/2 the last time I checked it but I guess there were other votes subsequent to that.

Anyway, I hope my documentation here (and the apparent agreement of all other contributors to this thread) is enough for Invelos to see that my update is correct.

This is the reason why:

www.videodetective.com/movies/RIP_IT_OFF/trailer/P00956291.htm
movies.nytimes.com/movie/273891/Rip-It-Off/trailers
movies.nytimes.com/movie/273891/Rip-It-Off/overview
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/rip_it_off/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0201479/
How are you to link the two titles? there is no other way then this one:
In the title field: Beyond the City Limits
In the original title field: Rip it Off

I'm not disputing that "Beyond the City Limits" and "Rip It Off" are the same movie. If you want to do this to link the titles in your local database you are of course free to do so. However, based upon the Contribution Rules putting "Rip It Off" in the original title field is simply wrong, and hence it has no place in the online database.

The rule you claim your change is based on reads like this:

Modified Titles: The Original Title field will contain the original theatrical title, while the Title field will contain the title of the DVD release.

"Rip It Off" is definitely NOT the "original theatrical title". To my knowledge this movie never had a theatrical release (certainly not a US domestic one). It was known only as "Beyond the City Limits" right up until it was renamed for the US DVD release. The R2 NL release that the disputed profile relates to came out almost a year before this. The title "Rip It Off" had never been associated with the movie at this stage.

I don't understand what the issue is. There were external links within the "Beyond the City Limits" profile to the sites that use the "Rip It Off" title (presumably added by you) several days before the original title change was accepted, so it's clearly not a requirement to have "Rip It Off" there in order to add links.

If you're worried about all the profiles linking together, then as has been mentioned several times this can be easily and correctly achieved by adding "Beyond the City Limits" as the original title in any profile (such as the one for the US release) that uses "Rip It Off", or anything else, as the title.

IMO we can't break the Title/Original Title Rule just so that we can link DVDs with the new Linking feature...and that's what it looks like is trying to be done here.

I agree... the rules must still be followed as they are written.

Gentlemen, can I also suggest you check the location of your dvd, you are voting in a Netherlands Locality (xxxxxxxx:: Fly is right, "rip it off" is an alternate title, not the original title. Modified title rule does not apply here as the title of the dvd and of the f)
