| Posted: | | | | Yes, this really is something that needs Ken's attention. There are a rather large amount of incorrect/unnecessary birth years in the database - the Bruce Willis one especially is rather well propagated. Better than most valid birth years, probably. Here's the last time I tried to draw Ken's attention to the issue. |

That's how the system was designed; to spread the BY 'virus-like' and it's very effective. Of course the Rule about "not unless necessary" came after the code was introduced and the genie was out of the bottle so it was too late for many. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | I do believe after BY were being contributed adhoc that Ken did purge all the contributed BY, and then advised that BY would olnly be accepted with documentation, hence the reason that we now have to provide the necessary proof.
So it would seem that one has slipped through again, perhaps just a minor purge instead of a full scale one this time?
I did notice the last time I downloaded the headshot DB that my local suddenly had an increase of unwarranted BY's, I try to keep an excel file of all accepted ones (as defined in the forum thread) so as to hopefully weed out the un-documented ones, still working my way through them.
Slightly OT, but also noticed in the headshot DB a lot of actors who have "nicknames" whereby I now have 3 or more of the same actor because the nickname is defined by "" or '' or () or without punctuation. I would suggest a common denominator to be agreed upon and adhered too.

If you use the Database Query plug-in, it will list all cast / crew with birthyears assigned. Using that, I was able to clean up my local database in no time at all. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

Right up until there's an update which includes his BY at which point it will apply it to all profiles that you have with him in, again... but thanks for the plug-in tip, it helps at least! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

It works for me, but of course it really is rather ridiculous that each of us has to resort to this. This really shouldn't be a local responsibility for each user individually - it should be dealt with by Ken, on a much higher level. Until he does, unwarranted birth years will keep popping up again and again. In the meantime, I've even encountered fake birth years (like '9999') that have been accepted into the database, so the situation is getting worse. |

Have found your plugin very helpful, but still require that I keep an excel file as not all of the accepted actors with BY are in my local, re Harrison Ford, I only have the Star Wars one, but by going by the "Accepted BY" thread I known there are others who have both. @T!M Whoever is supplying fake BY especially the ('9999') should have their contribution priveleges suspended until they learn to follow the submission rules. Right up until there's an update which includes his BY at which point it will apply it to all profiles that you have with him in, again... but thanks for the plug-in tip, it helps at least! Well, sure. My main point was that the plug-in helped me easily identify everyone with a birth year. Then I compared against the list of accepted birth years. That helped me with my original cleanup and was extremely easy. Of course it doesn't keep my database clean. But I pay attention to what data I'm accepting with new updates and can stay on top of the situation at this point. If I see a new update with a new birth year coming my way, then I deal with that on an individual basis. Either by skipping the update or accepting it and cleaning up after the fact. But the plug-in is a huge help with that initial cleanup. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |
