This may have been answered before and I missed it, but do we enter a single letter in bold for the new formatting?

For example if a paragraph in the Overview starts out with a vastly oversized (and bold) first letter of a word, do we enter it as bold as well? The rules say "any words" but nothing exactly regarding single letters or single characters.

Just select that individual letter in the overview edit window (or your seperate text editor for those who use one) and either use the "B" icon or type (letter here)

(or for Italics use "I" icon (letter here))

works the same for single letters, single words, single sentences or even whole paragraphs.

Yes, I know that. But my question was as to whether or not we should actually contribute bold on oversized single letters that start out paragraphs of an Overview.

Started a big Argument Nothing in the rules about trying to emulated the layout of the cover overview: I would vote No, some may feel as a layout copy artist, I don't

the next contributions we have: N°, thank you verry much

I addressed this in the rules committee thread sometime before the release of 3.5, and I was told that this wouldn't pose a problem because the rules say "words" - so that it would be obvious that just "letters" wouldn't qualify. I felt we'd have to spell it out, but others felt it was unnecessary...

Thanks for clarrifying that one, T!M (and well done for thinking of it in the first place) for those of us who haven't followed the whole discussion on the matter!

FWIw i think the right decision has been made

All I was indicating is as written in the NEW RULES:-

Overviews
Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case. Separate all paragraphs with a blank line.

Ken has stated exactly as written. So to me that says if the first letter is Bold or Italics or even both then that is how the overview should now be presented, why else change they way the overview can be edited / submitted and a chabge to the Rules to reflect this?

The program still doesn't cover underlined words or phrases, crossed-out words, various text sizes, fonts, or various colors.

It seems like almost the same reason why we don't enter "Line-break hyphens", it looks bad. If we have font sizes implemented in the future it would look more accurate, but for now it just doesn't look correct.

I think Ken really needs to update the rule on this so that it's clearer...

True. The only way I can see>

Overviews
Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case.

would be to allow ALL form of punctuation & formatting into the "Overview" window.

Enhancement for V4.0?

No it would not, the exact style layout is on the back cover. this is already with the cover in the database. Why The need to replicate that? It is already there.
If that is what is realy wanted, we can dump the overview text field and ask for another .jpg field and cut and paste the overview from the cover there?

When we had quotes instead of real bold and italics i don't recall seeing people trying to quote those leading drop caps (big first letters), or highlighting specific words in a font different from the main Overview.

People generally just understood what was and wasn't to be highlighted. That's how i'll continue to do it. If i quoted it last week i'll use the appropriate bold/italic this week.

My goal is not to emulate the jacket but make the overview slightly readable.
