| Posted: | | | | Imagine you have a box set with different movies.
But it also contains the same movie in different cut versions.
How to calculate the runningt time of the whole box?
a) Only take each movie once and pick the longest version of every movie
b) Just add up all the movies in the box | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Usually I'd say a, but then you get a movie like "Payback" (the one with Mel Gibson) which re-cut is almost another movie... so I'd say it depends on how you read the rules |

| Posted: | | | | The rules states "Use the combined running time of all the films in the Box Set; do not include running time of any extra features."
Bolded part by me.
Since it states all the films I would say to include the running times of all cuts of a film as long as a film is not among the extra features. |

| Posted: | | | | I voted (a). A given movie should be counted only once, represented by its longer version.
If a box set contains both the original B&W and a colorized version of the same title, IMO, it should be counted only once. Same for a box set containing both theatrical version and director's cut. In a sense, one version is counted as the movie, any other is an extra feature. |

So it would be d) Movie A (Blu-ray) + Movie A (DVD) + Movie B Cut 1 (3D Blu-ray) + Movie B Cut 1 (2D Blu-ray) + Movie B Cut 1 (DVD) + Movie B Cut 1 (UV) + Movie B Cut 2 (Blu-ray) + Movie B Cut 2 (DVD) + Movie C (Blu-ray)? | | | Last edited: by MakoDeth |

| Posted: | | | | OK, here's the concrete example I had in mind: X-Men: The Cerebro Collection
Contains:
X-Men 01:44:20 X2 02:13:47 X-Men: Last Stand 01:44:05 X-Men Origins: Wolverine 01:47:21 X-Men: First Class 02:11:42 The Wolverine (Standard) 02:06:08 The Wolverine (Extended) 02:18:05 The Wolverine (3D) 02:18:05 X-Men: Days of Future Past (Standard) 02:11:35 X-Men: Days of Future Past (3D) 02:11:35
According to a) it would be
X-Men 01:44:20 X2 02:13:47 X-Men: Last Stand 01:44:05 X-Men Origins: Wolverine 01:47:21 X-Men: First Class 02:11:42 The Wolverine (Extended / 3D) 02:18:05 X-Men: Days of Future Past (Standard / 3D) 02:11:35
14:10:55
According to b) it would be
X-Men 01:44:20 X2 02:13:47 X-Men: Last Stand 01:44:05 X-Men Origins: Wolverine 01:47:21 X-Men: First Class 02:11:42 The Wolverine (Standard) 02:06:08 The Wolverine (Extended) 02:18:05 The Wolverine (3D) 02:18:05 X-Men: Days of Future Past (Standard) 02:11:35 X-Men: Days of Future Past (3D) 02:11:35
20:46:43
According to StaNDarD's c) it would be
X-Men 01:44:20 X2 02:13:47 X-Men: Last Stand 01:44:05 X-Men Origins: Wolverine 01:47:21 X-Men: First Class 02:11:42 The Wolverine (Standard) 02:06:08 The Wolverine (Extended / 3D) 02:18:05 X-Men: Days of Future Past (Standard / 3D) 02:11:35

| Posted: | | | | I don't want to spoil the fun but isn't this completely useless information? I can't imagine any case in which I would like to know the combined running time of all films in a box set.
So i vote for d) Leave the field empty. | | | Recently bought films:
The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD] |

So i vote for d) Leave the field empty. Ironically that's exactly what I'm doing locally (both box sets and seasons). | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

You don't have to be snotty about it. Just vote. Hm... I did not intend to be snotty at all... so sorry... it's just thinking of a worse case... the industry is up for all kind of surprises... |

+2 The rules don't support it... but I always thought that the running time of parent profiles should be left blank. It is one rule I would be for changing. | | | Pete |
