| Posted: | | | | There is a new contribution for a Jag season I have in whish list. The contribution is from a user I trust, states sources in detail (not just a generic "from credits"!) and is formally in line with the Rules. Only problem, I don't own that DVD yet and I can't materially check the data. So, should I vote (Yes) or should I pass (Neutral) ? | | | -- Enry |

In this instance... what I would do is vote neutral... because if anything should come up that needs to be checked... you don't have it to check... when it comes to my Wishlist or ordered tabs... The only time I vote is when it is something that is obviously against the rules... like cast from IMDB or cover art with spine on front or back... or something in that order that it is obvious. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I don't vote on wishlist items for the same reasons the other people have mentioned, I can't confirm the data.
I will say that I will be fascinated with the responses to this thread as there are some folks who are quite active in the wishlist area. I've even heard rumors of people who add stuff to their wishlist for the express purpose of being able to vote. |

| Posted: | | | | I mostly leave stuff from the wishlist or ordered alone unless it's obvilously right or wrong, then I'll vote. I may get flogged for saying this, but some of my wishlist I do have as dubs so I can confirm the info (cast, runtime, studios, etc.). |

| Posted: | | | | If I had to check everything before voting I would not be able to vote at all (I have 3400+ profiles).
That said, I'm a bit more careful about voting on a DVD I don't actually own yet. But if someone submits better scans for a title in my wishlist, I'm going to vote yes unless I have reason to believe there's something wrong.
If someone says "I measured the runtime for this title using PowerDVD and it's 1:27:45" and I own the DVD, I sure as heck won't pull out the disc from my library and check for myself, unless it sounds very wrong.
I know this has been discussed before at Intervocative. Someone said that if we had to check every details of each submission, then there would be no point in downloading the updated profiles, because you might just as well enter the data yourself when you check it. And I agree with that sentiment.
And - if I accept updates for my owned items without checking the actual DVD, why would I not accept updates for ordered/wishlist items? I'll scrutinize the updates. If anything seems fishy I'll either check (if I can) or vote Neutral. If anything is obviously wrong, I'll vote no.
I mean, if someone updates an item in my wishlist and states that he's taken the cast from IMDB, why would I not vote No? I certainly don't need to have the DVD in my hand to tell that it's against the rules. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar | | | Last edited: by GSyren |

| Posted: | | | | Totally agree with everything you said Gunnar! Seems to me that as Invelos gave us the ability to vote on wishlist we should be using it. A couple of posts from Ken recently have made it clear that votes are weighted by a number of factors, including how you vote (rubber stamping etc.). Maybe the status of a DVD is not included in that as well - would certainly make sense. | | | Andy

| Posted: | | | | If the data is verifyable (to our best ability) then I will certainly vote.
I will also put in a No vote if the data is stated as coming from an illegal source or has something obviously wrong (commonly changing the overview to another language without changing the locality)
I would not vote on a cast list (for example) that I couldn't check, but if there was a hi-res scan and someone changed the overview and I could compare it to what I could read in the scan then I would.
It's simply a matter of common sense... and as GSyren says, how many people who have the DVD actually pull it for every single submission to check someone isn't lying about measuring the runtime?
... and BTW, how else would anyone get to vote on pre-release items? Psychic ability? | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong | | | Last edited: by Voltaire53 |

Not to be Captain Obvious or anything, but pre-release items are obviously in a separate class as even the contributor can't be using the disk as reference. It's all just a guess based on studio marketing material. |

| Posted: | | | | This has all been discussed before. Move along.. nothing new to see here.. And just to repeat the blindingly obvious.. when I check a contribution made for a DVD that I own I don't go away, get out the dvd, and repeat all the work done to check if I get the same information. I actually assume that what the person says he has done, he has done. And in that sense there is NO difference between a owned and a wish list item. | | | Paul | | | Last edited: by pauls42 |

| Posted: | | | | I think there's indeed a valid problem with this. A user is currently voting No about a case type change to a title that is in their wishlist, and they are clearly incorrect.
We at least need the ability to post response comments for negative votes in these situations... | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | That is entirely up to you, Enry. How comfortable are you that you know the data well enough to vote on it. There are parts of the profile which may be easy to verify without owning the title, there are other areas which might be more problematic, that is my personal rule of thumb.
That said I would agree with Kat, on the user with reference to the Case Type and voting No, without possessing the title he hardly is in any position to come to that conclusion.
