The top one is a SteelBook, the bottom on a MetalPak:


MetalPaks are inferior, flimsy, cheaper construction, and not to mention the horrible spine.  As far as the poll, the generic term Metal Case is just that a generic term to lump them all together.

As far as people chooing that over having both because of being less complicated, I just don't get....  Use Metal Case if you aren't sure....

Apples and oranges perhaps?  SteelBooks are the most common (and to most the most preferred Metal Case).  I don't think there are websites for people that collect standard cases, but there are quite a few devoted to SteelBooks.

I actually wouldn't mind those options you selected, although I'm sure they vary on releases.  I'd love to have the ability to add the brand (Vortex, Viva Elite) as well as the size (2-Disc, 3Disc, Double hub, etc) as well, although that makes more sense to keep it local.  I do track them in my collection with tags, but if the option to have custom entries in your local ever became available I'd probably do so.

Why are you against?  I don't get it, if you don't care, mark all of yours Metal Case and leave it at that.  Is it really that complicated that it will confuse people when contributing?  If you are unsure and submitting a brand new profile mark it as Metal Case.  If it is an actually SteelBook someone who can tell the difference can update it.

But there is no gray area here ... it's either a specific type of case (i.e. SteelBook) or it isn't.

That picture of the spines should be all anyone needs to tell the difference. Steelbooks have nice looking spines with logos that fit, look straight and centered. Metalpaks have hinges, the ugly line and logos fit in around the design flaws. I can tell the difference in half a second, and so can any trained or even informed eye.

Not to mention that the inside of a SteelBook case has the SteelBook logo molded into the plastic.
