My answer to all of this is: before you contribute any changes to a profile please re-read Before You Contribute in the Contribution Rules and ask yourself, "Does this add any significant value to the database"? Overloading the screeners with insignificant profile changes such as changing en-dashes to em-dashes, curly quotes to straight quotes, removing an extra space here or there in overviews only slows the screening process. Unless these minor changes are part of a wider contribution, they should not be submitted.

I agree 100%. Just fixing a dash is not enough of a change to make it worth submitting.

Even a simple typo I will fix local but not submit. I know what "teh" is. If it changed the meaning then yes (local TV guide had a cooking show about "how to select the correct poo for cooking pasta") I would submit it.

But if you are already doing another change, then go ahead and fix the — Em dash too.
Tom.

Again, a lot of hostility it seems regarding the use of correct characters. And the first reply after mine again talks about Microsoft Word for some reason I don't understand.

I don't know how else to say it or clarify it, but to me, there are three separate characters for double quotes: left, right, and straight. Whatever is on the overview should be what gets entered. (And again, this doesn't have anything whatsoever to do with Microsoft Word... why do people keep talking about it?)

I think everybody is just puzzled why the back cover isn't used to see the layout (if that is important) and the overview should just be the text so that this can be searched. I know that I search for text in order to identify a particular film. Anything which stops the search from working should be discouraged IMHO.

I know what "teh" is.

But what about "z0r"
99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1."

Having originally brought up this subject, I'm reminded of A.G. Bell's comment, "What hath God wrought?"  Sorry I started something on what is basically a trivial matter.

Don't be sorry, this has been a great discussion.

The rules don't forbid these sorts of changes, but this discussion has brought us to the point where that question could, and should, be asked.

And the question?  What purpose does the Overview serve in the data?  Once Ken answers this, we'll be able to determine what SHOULD be in the overview as far as formatting.
