From 1978-1982 I worked in the PR department of the San Francisco 49ers, designing pages for GameDay Magazine and magazine-like items for season-ticket holders. Above my direct boss were two people: the owner and the general manager (who also was the head coach). He had also been the head coach at the university where my wife went. Bill Walsh passed away today at the age of 75. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| | Posted: | | | | I read that today. Being a big Niner fan myself, it's a sad day. Bill Walsh was a decent man and a great coach. | | Posted: | | | | I'm a Cowboy fan, but Bill Walsh was someone I doubt anyone could not respect. Along with Lomardi, Landry, amd Buddy Ryan he changed football with his innovations and leadership. (And for a Cowboy's fan to include Buddy Ryan for his changing defensive play must show you the respect I hold for what he did.)
And Walsh's coaching family tree extends to at least 1/3 of the coaches coaching today, and add the assistants that went on to win Superbowls, without his leadership the NFL would probably be down to 8 teams. As there would be no coaches out there.
If there is not a moment of silence in the first games this season, and the Superbowl than there is no justice.

| | Posted: | | | | This is repetitive, but Coach Walsh was one of the best the game has ever seen and he will be missed. The gane today owes a great debt to Bill Walsh. This from a die hard Redskins fan and long time friend of both Joe Gibbs and Steve Spurrier. I remember Steve's years with the 49er's before moving on to become the Tampa Bay Bucs 1st and very harshly derided 1st Quarterback. Then there was another friend of mine that served on 9ers, John Reeves, QB for the USFL Tampa bay Bandits and coached by Steve. So long, Coach and say hi to Vince for all of us.

Any die-hard 49er fan can tell you why I chose his of all the ones I had a choice from.
