| Posted: | | | | I thought I'd seen a post or a poll on this in the past, but I couldn't find it (even used the Google method).
Anyway, here's the question. There's currently a profile that incorrectly has an Audio track for feature length Commentary. This track does not exist on the disc so I am removing it from the Audio section. However, on Disc2 the deleted scenes have optional Audio Commentary available. So in the Features section of the profile I left the "Commentary" box checked since there are some available in the Special Features.
In my mind this seems fine, but I've gotten some No votes asking me to uncheck the box from Features as well as remove it from the Audio section so I just wanted to get the general consensus on whether the Commentary track from the Audio section and the Commentary from the Features are directly linked and we shouldn't have one without the other and vice versa.
To me they're separate things and the rules for the Features section doesn't specifiy it must be feature length commentary, but figured I'd get some opinions just in case. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

I would add commentary on bonuses as an 'Other Feature' I would say this is similar (in a way) to the general agreement the other day that even a commentary on the main feature which is only applicable to 2 or 3 specific scenes (totalling only a few minutes) is more appropriate to the 'Other Feature' rather than 'Commentary' check box. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | Were i profiling the disc(s) i'd have dropped the Audio Commentary and the Features checkbox.
Thinking some more about it what Vega did seems reasonable and i wouldn't vote against it. I'd probably add a note in Other Features about the Commentary if the checkbox didn't apply to the main feature. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | I'd say: don't check the box and don't list it as an audio track. The feature (deleted scenes with optional commentary") is referred to by the checkbox "deleted scenes", and that's enough. It doesn't need to be referred to twice. The disc has a set of deleted scenes - "souped up" as they may be by this optional commentary, they're still deleted scenes. Ticking the commentary checkbox would make me think the film had a commentary track, and it hasn't.
I've had the same debate once about deleted scenes that were each preceded by a short, on-camera introduction by the director. Other than the director's introductions to these deleted scenes, the disc had no other kind of interviews nor a featurette. Yet someone wanted to tick "featurettes" (or "interviews", I forgot which one) to indicate the director's introductions to the deleted scenes. I voted against that as well: again, the disc contains a set of deleted scenes, dressed up nicely with short introductions, but still: deleted scenes. Ticking the featurette checkbox would make me think that there actually is one...
IMHO, the key is: don't refer to the same feature twice with different labels. |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for the input. Resubmitted with the Commentary box unchecked in the Features. I toyed with the idea of putting it in the Other Features, but it's not really something that notable so left it out. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |
