Having been around for both methods, I prefer the current one. I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive. There is a grey area. At first I thought it was an improvement, but after seeing multiple submission of accurate titles being replaced with titles that are wrong there is an obvious problem. I think the first step is to consider what Kathy posted. While I don't think what she thought was the rules was/is the rule I think something along those lines should be. If a title is printed somewhere in both lower & upper case than more than likely that is the accurate capitalization, especially if it is on the front cover. But many times it is all in uppercase, and sometimes in lowercase. In those instances if there isn't a spot where it's listed in upper & lower case than the secondary rules kick in. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

so everyone volunteered? I would, but then that would mean I have an agenda. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server | | | Last edited: by DoubleDownAgain |

and who asks the most questions now - the new contributors.
Which proves my point. you are missing my point. once it leaves the 1st. Is gone over by the 2nd, sent back to the 1st with suggested changes (so everyone can understand them - reason for the 2nd committee). I got that the first time around, but thanks. In fact, we agree. |

so everyone volunteered? I have no idea what you are asking here. With the exception of Skip and Dan, nobody volunteered for the first two rule committees. Every member was invited. As I said, I prefer the current "anybody who is interested can join method." I do find it ironic that you would exclude volunteers because you believe they usually have a personal agenda because people who say "this is how I would do it" are the ones who usually do. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I'm glad that general rules of English have been thrown out the window.
It's hilarious and another major step back for Profiler.
Off to lock even more shiitake mushroome that shouldn't need fecking locked. | | | Last edited: by samuelrichardscott |

Here is how I read the rules: The title data should match what is printed on the front cover - the rules tell us to use the title from the front cover. Invelos requires that we match this data as close as possible - including such titles as "Scre4m". Capitalization rules are applied to those titles which are written in all caps, lower or mixed case. This is how I have always done it and how, as far as I can remember, most other people do it. I don't care what the community decides, I lock this data. |

Off to lock even more shiitake mushroome that shouldn't need fecking locked. I would love to have proper rules for English. My frst proposal for the change was "For all languages, use standard capitalization, according to the language presented" After some discussions, especially in English, proper was different for each person based upon education (for those that have any idea of proper English). Most of the words, which we call prepositions, actually have multiple uses in speech. Take the word "out" it can be an adverb "he walked out into the street" it can be a preposition "he ran out the door" it can be an adjective "the secret was soon out" it can be a noun "he was desperately looking for an out" it can be a verb "the truth will out" out of all these, proper capitalization of titles say, all of these versions of out are capitalized, except when it is used as a preposition. Now if we use proper capitalization, how many people will know the difference? So instead, we use a defined writing style. There are many, depending on the organization, The AMA has one, so does the ABA/ There is the Chicago manual of Style, the AP style guide, the US Government printing office, and others. All that we need to do, is establish a rule, or append the current rule. (by the way Ken added "from" this morning). |

| Posted: | | | | I think we need to remove all pretense though.
For the people that would argue that it should be "Se7en" or "T4xi" or any of the other graphics, shouldn't we abolish the capitalization rule altogether.
If we are to copy exactly as these 2 examples would indicate, shouldn't we just take the title from the cover as it is printed?
I know this is argumentative, but it seems that there are those that would like to have it both ways.... | | | Last edited: by CharlieM |

But I never volunteered, because I would have pushed my agenda. Those who volunteered and state they have no agenda are liars. |

| Posted: | | | | I'd hate how it looks, but the easiest solution would be to use ALL CAPS for titles. At least it's a simple rule, it doesn't matter which country you are from and how good your english is. On the other hand, what should we do with all the free time, when we don't need another 15-20 forum pages of discussion? |

I wasn't aware that every member was invited back then to volunteer for the first two rule committees. As far as I was aware this had all been done in secrecy. It was done in secrecy, and only those that were invited knew about it until they were released. I only knew about the second revision because I was invited just to spite Skip...well, that wasn't the only reason, but it was one of them. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
