Not sure where to put this question as it is not a technical issue per se.  I'm starting to "pre-order" my DVDs and BDs rather then buying them after they've streeted and I'm torn as to whether I should put them in the Wish List tab (as they haven't been officially purchased yet - the vendor posts the charge when they ship) or in the Ordered tab.

I think the Wish List is best but if anyone has this thought out or there is a proper approach I'm missing, please let me know. Thanks.

The way I personally do it... once I hit that order button it is placed in the order tab whether or not the money has been taken out or not. Like for example today I pre-ordered Mutant X: The Complete Series... it don;t come out till October... but I have it in my ordered tab already... as it is ordered.

In my opinion it don;t have to be paid for to be ordered.

It's completely up to you - there is no right or wrong way of doing it.
Personally I use the wishlist to store DVDs I'm thinking about buying. Once I've actually placed the order, they go into the Ordered tab. And when they arrive they get moved to Owned.
If you want to do it a different way, that's fine too.

I'm with Pete and North on this. If I'm only thinking of buying a DVD, it will go in my wish list. But if I've actually placed an order, even for a prerelease, then it will go into my Ordered List. Even though the Vendor has not yet charged me for it, I've already adjusted my budget to account for the expense.

If you really want to be able to diferentiate your pre-orders from the "paid" orders you could use a tag for this purpose. You can assign the tag when you add the DVD to your Ordered list. You probably want to remove the tag when the DVD arrives though.

All orders are only charged for when they ship. So if you don't use ordered tab for orders (not yet paid) what would you use that tab for?

I use the ordered tab this way also, but I have 1 issue with it. If you upload your collection, the DVD's on the ordered tab are listed in your collection. Since they are only ordered, I don't have them yet, and I don't feel they should be in my online collection.

100% agree; FWIW for pre-orders I move them to ordered but set the 'purchase date' to the release date rather than the date I ordered them, so that I know in which order (and about when) my orders will arrive.
When the order is sent (or arrived if I didn't check earlier) I change the date to the day it was sent out, as that's when I consider them 'mine' even if they're in the post.

Though they do appear in your collection only under the ordered tab, not under owned. FWIW even titles in the wishlist are considered 'in your collection' for purposes of voting as well, so it's up to you to use common sense when voting on titles you don't yet actually have in your possession... if you see an update saying somthing you can't check or are not sure of just vote neutral. If you see one that puts up better covers for example it's easy to see if they're correct and an improvement so I feel happy to vote (though each to their own!).
Of course this facility is absolutely vital for pre-release titles otherwise nobody would be able to download any of these (and instead you get the annoying situation of lots of people updating the profile with massively overlapping data when it's released, often exacerbated by the fact they don't check what else has been contributed before they contribute themseleves sometimes because they can't since thre is no pre-release profile to check against.)

FWIW - I use the the tabs for Ordered, Shipped and Owned, so whenever I order something it goes under the Wishlist tab. When I get shipping confirmation it goes to Ordered and when it arrives it, of course, goes to Owned.

I'm using the online wishlist at my favorite retailer to keep track of my actual wishlist. Sure could do with an extra tab in Profiler, though.

They also appear under the "All" tab, but not under "Owned."

I agree, but I also put the date and order number when ordered in the notes section:
yyyymmdd ########

Then when I get a notice of shipment I update the date of purchase under the personalize tab.
I also have a tag I set when iit s shipped,
so I can check of what has been shipped and what has not been shipped.

Then when I receive the DVD I use the Add_DVD tab to move the profile from ordered to owned by UPC, assuring that I have the profile by UPC that matches by DVD, sometimes a title may have more than one UPC. If this is the case I then copy my personal data to the correct profile and remove the incorrect profile.

Thus I have record of when I oreded and purchased the DVD.
I would never buy from a retailer that charges me before shipment.

.

why not just update the UPC number if the correct number is different and then refresh the profile?

Good feedback guys! I think putting pre-orders in the Ordered tab with a tag is a good idea (thanks Rygaard) or possibly changing the Purchase Date to the Release Date and cross checking against the shipping notice/packing slip (even better, Voltaire).

This last is a good point as I thought it odd to have purchase dates predating release dates in the Order Tab - rubs me the wrong way. I know this is all "local" editing but would like to have it reasoned out before putting a process into place. Anal ain't I?

Just go to My Profiler -> Online Colection and uncheck the Show in Public Listing | Ordered box.
