| Posted: | | | | I imagine this is about the no vote I cast where you were trying to remove Classic and replace it with Family on the TV Series Happy Days. My no vote was for 2 reasons. 1. This was the only change you were making to the profile. And since the Rules say.... Quote: Do not make contributions that only change or re-order Genres, unless the existing Genre list is blatantly incorrect. While I may not completely agree with Classic I wouldn't go as far as saying it is "blatantly incorrect" as I can see how many people consider Happy Days as a classic when it comes to sitcoms.... or TV Shows in general for that matter. 2. I disagree with the addition of Family. Something like Happy Days is not what I personally think of when I think of the genre Family. And everyone has just as much right to vote no to a genre that we disagree with as the contributor has to contribute it. My suggestion... do what most of us do when it comes to genres.... change it to what you prefer locally and lock it down. Not attempt to change what is already in the online. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Ken Cole on Genre changes... Quoting Ken Cole:Quote: The rule is to prevent ping-ponging of genre order. If there's a valid contribution being made with other changes, there's nothing in the rules to prevent reordering/changing the genres.
However, two points:
- There should be a specific reasoning listed for the reorder, listed in the contribution notes - Even with a reason, you should expect a larger chance to draw No votes from users who disagree with the reorder.
It is likely the contribution will be declined if there is a significant resistance to the genre changes, so all things being equal it is advisable to leave the genre changes local unless you have a good reason to change them and expect consensus. and Quoting Ken Cole:Quote: Ace is absolutely correct - changing genres is not against the rules, as long as either a) there are other changes required and included -OR- b) the genres are blatantly incorrect.
The caveats I listed above apply to the wisdom of making the contribution, but there is nothing rule-violating about a contribution that meets one or both of the above requirements.
I'll trust this ends the discussion of whether these are against the rules. and Quoting Ken Cole:Quote: You are certainly welcome to disagree with a particular change in genres - the best avenue for that is a No vote with a brief polite note.
I'm just answering the op's question, which is whether these contributions are ok by the rules, and they are. Notice especially the points I put in bold. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

Some people might consider something a 'Classic', while other's might call it a 'Classic P.O.S." What exactly defines a Classic? Age? Popularity? We have enough genres to apply to films/shows, no need for it IMO. IMO it should be removed from the Genre category, no need for it IMO. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | I never use classic, three slots are slim enough without wasting them on classic, I think I've removed all of them in my db. I did have to change a genre when i screwed up and didn't see that hit comedy instead of crime. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. | Posted: | | | | Some people think classic is equal to old, problem with that is old is very subjective. If you're very young you may think that if it's older than you it's classic. But if you're older, a 30 year old film wouldn't be a classic.
Even the "It's stood the test of time" method is subjective. Just because a film or tv show is played often or remembered fondly doesn't mean it's an automatic classic.
Perhaps, the best non-subjective method is to use the Classic genre if it's in the overview on the case. And then only if it's used as an adjective of the movie or tv series.
That way it's the studio saying that it's a classic and not us.
Just doing a filter search, these would be what is Classic when in the Overview. Alice in Wonderland American Graffiti Apocalypse Now The Aristocats Assault on Precinct 13 Bambi Beauty and the Beast Bedknobs and Broomsticks |

| Posted: | | | | As for the topic of classics... seldomly if ever use it myself.
That just don't change the fact that the contribution you made should be voted no to... with the rules as written. As well as the fact that I disagree with the replacement genre. | | | Pete |
