Since the database is being rebuild from scratch, it took take some days, until all profiles and covers have been re-submitted. Just have a little patience, or better, contribute them yourself.

I have nearly 900 DVDs in my collection.  I owned the full version of 2.x, and 99% of my DVDs had high-resolution cover scans.

When I upgraded to v3 and did a cover scan refresh, it gave me an error on roughly 20% of my discs.

What's going on here????  How do I refresh the 200 or so discs that are missing covers????

If you wanted to keep your scans from 2.x version, you shouldn't make a refresh of all cover after the import of your backup and keep your old. So you kept your hi-quality covers.

day by day, this database will grow as each user pulls an efford to contribute those profiles.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Thanks. I'll try doing an import of the backup again.

Re-import your backup into 3.0 and lock your profiles until this settles down.  If you have profiles that haven't been contributed to the database yet, update them to 3.0 standards and go ahead and contribute those.

After restoring my backup into 3.0 I immediately locked all profiles.  I then contributed all my profiles/images that weren't already in the database, 215 to be exact.  I haven't refreshed any profiles yet.  I'll wait till this weekend to start that arduous process as I have over 1,400 in my collection.

Houston, we have a problem...This really sucks. You need to work out a database sharing arrangement with Intervocative. The images have been uploaded there, but are not available for download from the Invelos database...This is lame and is guaranteed to cause problems because until their is database sharing there's going to be inconsistency when people eventually find out about this new site and the new version.

The problem all starts and ends with Invelos existing as a separate entity from Intervocative. Intervocative is not advertising the existence of Invelos and v 3.x... So, you'll have users continuing to submit to Intervocative, perhaps a considerably larger user base than that aware Invelos and v 3.x. Then when people do find out about v3.x, guess what...all the submittals done under 2.4 are nowhere to be found under 3.0 because you guys couldn't figure out how to co-exist at the backend database sharing level?

Come on!

Respectfully,

Darryll

Darryll,

I don't know which possible legal entanglements or others there might have been with that specific part.
But I'm quite sure Ken Cole knew that the replication of the IVS Database would be a strong marketing argument for 3.0. So, if that hasn't happened, there must have been some very valid reasons for that, as Ken would (obviously) like to have all possible money-generating arguments with him.

Since that was not possible, it was decided by invelos to go ahead with an empty database, trusting that the community would respond, and rebuild it in thanks for keeping the old licences valid in this new program from this new company (we payed IVS at the time, so invelos is just giving us their product for having bought the IVS one), and for all the nifty new features.

Rebuilding the database from scratch at this moment is actually a Good Thing (TM), as the IVS database was highly bloated and filled with erroneous profiles that only crippled it (performance wise).
In this way we'll get a much better (and more accurate) database.

This user community (yours), has, in about a week, inserted 73 416 dvd titles, providing practically all the major titles in all DVD regions worldwide. So, in a short time, we'll have it bigger and better.

I guess it clearly shows, even in such a short time, that we're not trying it. We're actually doing it! (thank you Master Yoda).

Cheers,

I would guess that the answer would be no since the registration codes for v2 and v3 are different (and owned by different companies).

But to be sure you would need to ask this on the correct forums -

I imagine one of the main problems is that the profile reference codes e,g, EAN is different format between v2 and v3 programs. And there wouldn't be a way of only transferring the correct profiles to the new server - so we would have loads of crap transferred over.

Have you checked for contributions to 2.5 recently? I haven't seen anything for me to vote towards for at least a week.

I just checked and for my list of 1750+ DVDs there is one pending profile.

You may find that many (might be most) of the active contributors have moved here.

For who wants to continue to use the db of 2.x version (waiting for a big 3.x db), I'm acting in this way:

1. open dvdprofiler 2.x
2. add new titles
3. backup db
4. open dvdprofiler 3.x
5. restore db
6. reassign collection numbers

IT WORKS!
